Is (M)SDS Different from SDS?
(Visit www.qsdsconversion.com for more information on our GHS service.)
The short answer is: no, they are not different. Material safety data sheets ((M)SDS) and safety data sheets (SDS) are the same thing. Both help ensure the safe handling and transportation of hazardous materials by providing necessary safety information to all parties involved. Although both formats contain the same information, SDSs are structured in accordance to the Global harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) format. This means SDSs follow GHS's 16 sections in order. In other words, (M)SDSs and SDSs do provide the sme information but SDSs maintain the standardized format companies will be required to adopt by June 1, 2015. Streamline GHS-Compliant SDS authoring
As regulatory requirements for Material Safety Data Sheets ((M)SDS) continue to become longer and more complicated, firms using paper-based systems of (M)SDS management can expect to spend more time digging through files.
Quantum’s SDS Authoring and Generation module solves this problem. This module helps manage the creation, distribution and storage of Material Safety Data Sheets with convenient software on the web or an intranet.
The easy-to-learn module dramatically cuts time spent with Material Safety Data Sheets by standardizing the (M)SDS management process and streamlining the authoring and generation process. The SDS Authoring and Generation module integrates with existing ERP systems and ensures automatic compliance with today and tomorrow’s chemical regulatory requirements. Even better, Quantum has designed the database structure to adjust to future regulation and compliance. So the module will always be up-to-date and will not additional require time and money spent on software updates.
Additional features include:
- Automatic flagging and documentation of first shipments, revised (M)SDS and no (M)SDS within one year
- Masked complexity (with access to full detail)
- Protection of trade secrets by user-defined percent ranges and the ability to hide proprietary chemical information
- Cross referencing of business operating languages
- Ability to update multiple (M)SDS simultaneously
SDS Authoring and Generation can be purchased as a stand-alone solution or as part of the Q EHS compliance software package.
