OSHA to Represent at GHS December Meeting

OSHA announced they will represent the U.S. Interagency GHS Coordinating Group and will host a public meeting November 12 to discuss proposals to prepare for the meeting with the United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals.

The event will be held December 10-12 in Geneva, Switzerland. The purpose of this meeting in Geneva is to incorporate requests and comments from different countries within the United Nations in order to work toward an international standard for hazardous chemicals and decide how to report such classifications. Together, the standardization will ensure safety and increase competition in the market worldwide.

The public meeting will gather information and feedback for members to coordinate positions for this upcoming meeting. DOT’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is hosting a public meeting on November 12, to discuss preparations for the U.N. Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, held December 1-9 in Geneva as well.
